Shaheen’s Historic Whitewash

LAHORE – In a breathtaking display of dominance at the Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan completed a historic 3-0 series whitewash against Australia on Sunday. The victory, a 111-run demolition in the third and final T20I, marks Pakistan’s first-ever clean sweep against the Aussies in this format and serves as a massive statement ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Babar’s Milestone and Saim’s Fire

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan’s top order silenced critics with a clinical performance. Saim Ayub set the tone early with a blistering 56 off 37 balls, showcasing his trademark aggressive style.

However, the spotlight belonged to Babar Azam. Playing a measured and unbeaten knock of 50 off 36 balls*, Babar etched his name deeper into history. During this innings, he surpassed India’s Virat Kohli to become the player with the most fifties in T20 International history (39). His anchoring role allowed Shadab Khan to unleash a late-innings carnage, smashing 46 runs from just 19 deliveries, propelling Pakistan to a formidable total of 207/6.

The Nawaz Magic: Australia Bundled for 96

Chasing 208 was always going to be a mountain to climb for the visitors on a turning Lahore track. Australia’s chase never found its rhythm as Pakistan’s bowling attack, led by a resurgent Mohammad Nawaz, dismantled the lineup.

Nawaz was unplayable, claiming career-best figures of 5/18—the fourth-best bowling figures for Pakistan in T20I history. Supported by Shaheen Shah Afridi’s early breakthroughs, the Australian side collapsed for a mere 96 runs in 16.5 overs.

Series Accolades

  • Player of the Series: Salman Ali Agha (for his consistent leadership and batting).
  • Player of the Match: Mohammad Nawaz (for his 5-wicket haul).

Looking Ahead

With the series trophy secured, the Pakistan team is now shifting focus to the T20 World Cup. Following a government announcement, the team is set to depart for Sri Lanka on February 2nd. While the momentum is at an all-time high, the focus will now be on their opening match against the Netherlands on February 7th, following the official decision to boycott the high-voltage clash against India.
